What is a Minecraft SMP server?
SMP means survival multiplayer: a shared world that the same people come back to. The point is the community and the place you build, not a round that ends when the last player falls.
SMP, vanilla, and vanilla+
An SMP can be plain vanilla, or vanilla+ with claims, homes, and voice chat. Read the tags. If you want the default game, skip the ones selling kits. If you want neighbours without a new game mode, vanilla+ is usually the closer fit.
